What is the Wave & Tidal Knowledge Network? show/hide

The Knowledge Network is a web-based system which facilitates data exchange in the emerging wave and tidal energy industry.  It is a searchable database containing a wide range of information available to download free of charge and also provides links to information held elsewhere which may be available on a commercial basis.

The Knowledge Network contains more than 2000 resources on a range of topics relevant to wave and tidal energy.  The resources are of a variety of types, including reports and datasets.  The site was launched in April 2013 and is regularly updated as additional resources become available.

The Crown Estate originally developed the Knowledge Network in line with its strategic objective to support growth of the wave and tidal industry and in partnership with the Department of Energy and Climate Change. The WTKN is now managed by the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.

Do I need to register? show/hide

You do not need to register to use the Wave & Tidal Knowledge Network. The site has been designed to be open to all. However, registering for the site will allow access to some additional functions, including saving searches for future visits, posting on the Exchange Board, and providing comments on the resources you have viewed.

Is there a cost to access the Knowledge Network? show/hide

Accessing the site is free of charge and many of the resources can be downloaded for free. Where resources are available on a commercial basis, a link is given to the organisation holding the information, and an agreement may be made between that organisation and the requesting party.

How do I search for resources? show/hide

You can search the site by using either the free text search box or a number of 'refiners', which can be found in the left column of the results page. You can also draw search polygons on a map if you are interested in information related to a particular region of the UK.

How can I contribute information to the site? show/hide

The Offshore Renewable Energy is planning to expand the Knowledge Network to increase the number of resources available and we invite organisations to suggest new resources to be posted.

If you wish to contribute resources, please e-mail wtkn@ore.catapult.org.uk

Please note that inclusion of resources is at the sole discretion of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.

Are international resources covered by the Knowledge Network? show/hide

Primarily, the Knowledge Network is intended for users in the UK with interests in the UK industry.

However, users from other countries are very welcome, and - to encourage international collaboration for mutual benefit - the system also includes resources related to other countries.
